TIFFANY STUDIOS: MEMORIALS IN GLASS & STONE – 1st, 1913 PHOTOGRAVURES – SCARCE
City: New York
Year: 1913 (First Edition)
Binding Style: Firm softcover
Illustrated: Yes, 30 Photogravures
Original boards with gray wrappers, debossed lettering on front cover. Overall
an excellent copy: minimal shelfwear with some faded spots, and no interior markings. All pages and 30 photogravures are bright, crisp and clean. Photogravure plates retain their original tissue guards. Dust jacket is glued to inside boards, but this appears to be part of the original publishing. First
edition of this attractively demure Tiffany brochure “published as an
advertising medium of our ecclesiastical department; to convey in text and
illustrations some idea of the scope of its work in indoor and outdoor
memorials of both glass and stone” (prefatory note). Included are
details of windows, mosaics, monuments, granite and favrile glass, a type of
iridescent glass patented by Tiffany in 1894. Exceedingly scarce: Copac cites
only two copies (one in British and Irish institutional libraries, V&A); OCLC
cites 13 locations (in the United States).
