REVELATIONS OF A SPIRIT MEDIUM — By Harry Price and Eric J. Dingwall — 1st Edition / 1st Printing, 1922 — Mediumship Psychic Seance Fraud Magic Paranormal Activity Occult
Publisher: Kegan Paul, Trench, Turner & Co. London (1922)
Very scarce 1922 reprint edition from the original, with notes originally published in 1891 with additional text, commentary and bibliography by Harry Price with this release. In very well preserved condition. Blue boards with gilt on spine; 327 pages and wonderfully illustrated. The boards and binding are solid and tight, save for light shelfwear. Binding tape on front and back inside boards. The pages are crisp and clean save for Ex Libris bookplate of James B. Alfredson on the front inside board. James B. Alfredson (1937-2015) was the author of several biographies about magicians, and a co-compiler of the landmark bibliography of magic periodicals. “The ‘Revelations of a Spirit Medium’ was originally
published anonymously in Minnesota in 1891. According to the ‘Bibliographical
Note’ in the present edition “the book was such a crushing exposé of the
methods of bogus mediums that it created somewhat of a furore when it first saw
the light. The mediums themselves bought every copy of the work they could
find. Many copies were destroyed on the assumption that “dead men tell no
tales,” and the book soon became rarissime.’ This new edition, by renowned
scholars and psychical researchers Eric John Dingwall and Harry Price,
includes a facsimile of the original, along with notes, bibliography, glossary
and index by Harry Price and Eric Dingwall. This new edition must have had a
tiny print-run – and perhaps suffered a similar fate at the hands of mediums to
the previous one – as it too is extremely scarce.” [Weiser]
